County Road 81 Crossing Opens to Traffic

ByTara Ekren /

Red River Valley Alliance announces the opening of the County Road 81 crossing over the stormwater diversion channel, a portion of the larger, FM Area Diversion project.

Located north of Harwood, North Dakota, construction of the CR 81 bypass lanes and crossing have been ongoing since 2023 alongside the Interstate 29 and railroad bridges. This crossing is the final one in this area to be completed, and the 12th crossing overall. Work will now shift to bypass lane removal and continuing excavation of the diversion channel in this area.

Like other county road crossings, the bridge is 410 feet long and utilizes 18 girders to support the bridge deck. This bridge features a bike and pedestrian lane as well. Two sections of roadway will open with a temporary gravel surface and will be paved with asphalt in the spring of 2026 when weather allows.

Work on the bridge and roadway was completed by ASN Constructors and subcontractors Kraemer North America, Industrial Builders, Inc. and Park Construction.
