While construction on Interstate 94 west of the metro has been a common occurrence the last couple years, some relief from orange cones, bypass lanes and lane closures is coming to motorists as the I-94 crossing over the stormwater diversion channel begins to open to traffic near mile marker 342.
Red River Valley Alliance and ASN Constructors along with the North Dakota Department of Transportation are excited to announce the opening of the westbound Interstate 94 passing lane. Traffic will be moved from the bypass lane to the new permanent alignment the morning of Friday, September 26, 2025.
Full opening of the crossings will be staggered, with the eastbound passing lane anticipated to open next week. Both westbound and eastbound driving lanes are expected to open by the end of October.
As lanes open, speeds will remain reduced and width restrictions will be in place as construction continues. Motorists are asked to remain alert in the area for the safety of themselves, construction workers and fellow motorists.

Here are some fun facts about the Interstate 94 crossings:
- Each crossing measures 410.5 feet in length
- 15 girders, which are 135 feet and 6 inches long, create the primary support of each crossing
- 6,000 cubic yards of concrete have been placed for the roadways
- 2,023 cubic yards of concrete have been placed for the bridges
- 4,790 linear feet of piling has been driven for the bridges
