RRVA Participates in Reforest the Red

ByTara Ekren /

River Keepers annual Reforest the Red tree planting event was held on September 17, 2025. The RRVA team participated in this event by both sponsoring the event as well as volunteering to plant trees and shrubs along the Red River in south Fargo.

Over 300 volunteers joined forces to dig, plant, mulch and stake trees! Thousands of trees and shrubs of varying species and sizes were planted.

These riparian zones along the river do many things including improving bank stability which can slow down erosion and slumping, and slow surface runoff and floodwater, causing sediment to be dropped on the soil rather than in the waterway. They also provide habitat for river wildlife and the shade cools stream temperatures which allows aquatic species to thrive. A healthy riparian zone filters out windblown sediment and air born pollutants as well as providing recreational opportunities to fish, bird watch, picnic and much more.

We are proud to give back to the community and have a hand in a more sustainable future.

Project partners include River Keepers, The City of Fargo, Fargo Park District, The City of Moorhead, and Cass county Soil Conservation District.
